Order A Mouthpiece That Fits Your Style
The mouthpiece market for brass players can be confusing with so many sizes and types. David Maller will talk to you about what your goals are for tone, playing style, and craft a mouthpiece that helps you to play and sound your best.
Maller mouthpieces are crafted with meticulous attention to both historical accuracy and modern performance. Whether intended for the 17th–18th century natural trumpet or today’s modern Bb and C instruments, each mouthpiece is hand-lathed and precision-finished to match the demands of the player and the period.
For historic reproductions, Maller offers authentic mouthpieces modeled after original baroque and classical examples found in European museum collections. These pieces feature flat rims, shallow hemispherical cups, and wide throats, all contributing to the characteristic warm, vocal sound of natural trumpet playing. The design replicates original 18th-century craftsmanship and is ideal for players focused on historically informed performance.
Modern mouthpieces are offered with a wide range of customizable options including cup depth, rim shape, throat diameter, and backbore taper. These are designed for comfort, projection, and consistency across dynamic ranges and ensemble settings. Maller can craft for Bb, C, D, Eb, and piccolo trumpets, as well as cornet, flugelhorn, and all other brass instruments upon request.
Every mouthpiece is made to order from high-quality brass and optionally plated in silver or gold. Each design emphasizes a responsive feel, clear articulation, and tonal integrity across registers.
Compatibility
Maller mouthpieces are available with modern shanks or historical tapers to fit instruments from every era. Custom adaptations can be made for keyed bugles, rotary trumpets, cornetti, and other specialized brass instruments.
